Developing a story game to support oracy in 8 to 12 year-olds:

This is my current focus. I am currently working on this educational resource project for primary schools with Dr Julien Morton from London Southbank University. As the resource is develop there are useful opportunities for research . We are currently in a testing phase in primary schools in North Devon.

The working title for the story game is: Crank, Imma and The Keeper.

Supporting art at King’s College Cambridge:

I am associate Member of King’s College and I support students, Fellows and staff who wish to make art. The Art Rooms at King’s have a vibrant creative culture.

Working in education research:

My monograph for Palgrave Macmillan, ‘Observational Filmmaking for Education: Digital video practices for researchers, teachers and children‘, was published in March 2019.

I work internationally on curriculum support and development projects, often with Cambridge Assessment International Education. For example, in recent years, I have worked on arts curriculum development for Kazakhstan, Ethiopia, UAE and Mongolia.

I have a PhD from the University of Cambridge (2017). I worked in the Faculty of Education. From October 2017 to July 2019, I was a Visiting Researcher at the University of Barcelona developing an observational film pilot research project in Barcelona primary schools with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Education. In 2015, I was a visiting Fellow at Austrailia National University in Canberra.

Working as an artist:

As an artist I had two shows in 2023. From June to Sepetmeber I exhibited sculptures at Celler Carles Andreu de Pira, Tarragona, Catalunya. In April 2023, I had my first show in almost 30 years at Escoles Velles, Begur, Catalunya.

Although I am 67, I still think of myself as an emerging artist. Since June 2019 I have been working as an artist after a gap of many, many years. This site is an up-to-date as a record of this new practice, but you can also visit @nigel.meager on Instagram to see my work. I find comments and communication very helpful. Email nrm32@cam.ac.uk for contact. I have a studio in Begur, Catalonia, Spain. I live in Begur and work at King’s College, Cambridge (UK) where I am an Associate Member of the College. I look after the Art Rooms at King’s and support anyone from the broad College community who wants to make art.

In 2021, I was a mentee as part of the New Art School with the wonderful support of my mentor the Scottish contemporary artist Karla Black

As a member of the collective I am (and have been) participating in visual arts projects in Australia, Uruguay, California, Cambridge UK, Germany and Illinois.
